ORIN is a dentist. Not a normal dentist, but one who enjoys inflicting pain. He enjoys nothing more after a day's torture in his surgery than riding the streets on his macho motorcycle.
Orin isn't a real dentist of course, just a character in Jill Wood's Theatre Company's production of Little Shop of Horrors, which is to be performed at the newly modernised Cotswold Playhouse in February.
The role will be played by Alex Curry who played Ugly, the leading role of in the Company's last performance, Honk. This is a completely different role for Alex, who is relishing the challenge.
Orin's long suffering girl friend Audrey works in New York's Skid Row in Mr Mushnik's flower shop. Also working in the shop is Seymour, who has acquired a fascinating, bizarre plant, which has an appetite for human blood. Only a drop is required when it is little, but as it grows so does its appetite.
Little Shop of Horrors is a wonderful musical comedy. It has a score which will appeal to all tastes, a talented young cast, and terrific visual effects. Wait until you see the rapidly growing plant.
The Company present Little Shop of Horrors at the Cotswold Playhouse, Stroud, from Friday, February 21 to Saturday, March 1 at 7.30pm and matinees on both Saturdays at 2.30pm.
Tickets are available from the Tourist Information Office, Subscription Rooms, Stroud 01453 760960 (telephone bookings and credit card facilities available) or Jill Woods Theatre Company 01453 882550.
The production is sponsored by the Stroud News and Journal and proceeds go to CLIC (Challenging Childhood Cancer and Leukaemia).
