Memorable Montana

THE Space is to host an epic gig by an exciting up-and-coming band this weekend.

Montana, who are about to record their debut album in London with renowned producer Mark Freegard, intend to use this show as an opportunity to get fired up for the recording sessions. They also want to give local music fans something to get excited about.

The band liken their 'three-piece with a vocalist' sound to such influences as Neil Young, Suede, U2 and The Smiths. The band are vocalist and lyricist Russell James, Christian Pattemore on bass, Sam Pattemore on drums and Robert Cooke - who writes the music - on guitar and backing vocals.

The band state that 'boldness, integrity and power delivery is our musical policy'. As Russell explains: "I feel we are here to get into peoples' blood. We are duty bound to lift people's spirits.

That's the bottom line. I believe that Stroud will really dig Montana."

"There are so many great, accessible guitar bands out there who just don't get heard through the fog of the current musical scene," added Robert. "We intend to bring out a more organic form of music, one which relies on natural ingredients such as original ideas and memorable songs."

Montana play at The Space with Cheltenham band Dark Star Safari as support on Saturday February 1.

Doors open at 8pm with some great build-up music from Neil Young, Sex Pistols, the Pixies, Nirvana and James Brown. The bands start at 9pm. Tickets are £5 in advance or £6.50 on the door.
