RACY novelist Jilly Cooper and world bowls champion Tony Allcock came to blows in a virtual boxing match on Monday.
Listeners to BBC Radio Gloucestershire heard the pair do battle in a three round contest organised to make up for the cancellation of the latest TV celebrity boxing bout.
Mid-morning presenter Mark Cummings paired the unlikely duo - and it was Jilly from Bisley who proved the most punchy. She floored Tony on points in a contest where general knowledge replaced boxing gloves.
An embarrassing moment for Tony - a world class sportsman as well as a dog breed and show judge - came when he was asked where the 2004 Olympics will be held.
With his Teckles animal shelter staff at Whitminster supposedly helping him in the background he answered 'Australia' - only to be told he had again fluffed his punch. The answer was Athens.
Jilly is currently writing a new book about a posh boarding school which bonds with a badly behaved comprehensive.
