Felce adds to medal haul

ARCHWAY School athlete Alex Felce has been busy adding to his haul of medals on the track and in cross country competitions.

Alex, aged 16, from Randwick, the current county under 20 cross country champion and former England Schools under 15 champion, competed in the South West Schools Cross Country Championships at Truro, Cornwall earlier this month and ran away with the Under 17 boys race.

He led from gun to tape to finish 12 seconds ahead of the Dorset champion, also leading the Gloucestershire team to victory in the Intermediate Boys team event. Backing him up in the team event were Stroud runners Tom Russell who finished fourth and Ian Whitfield who was tenth to complete a very successful day for Stroud athletes.

Prior to that, success Alex had come within a second of achieving a gold medal in the AAA Junior indoor championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

Running in the Under 17 boys 1500 metres event, Alex took the silver medal in a thrilling race which saw him just overtaken in a sprint finish by a Lancashire rival who won in a time of 3mins 59.71 secs, the second fastest ever in the UK for an indoor 1500 metres.

Alex's time of 4mins 00.81secs knocked nearly five seconds off his previous personal best for the distance and placed him fifth fastest ever in the UK under 17 indoor list.
