Celebrity splatdown

A STROUD event organiser is hoping to add something out of ordinary at this year's fFringe Festival.

Colin Waller from Horns Road is hoping to stage a celebrity wrestling match outside the Subscription Rooms in aid of Cancer Research.

"It was my brother's idea really," said Colin.

"He planted the idea in my head and now I'm in the process of contacting the people who I feel would be up for it."

Mr Waller, who produced the popular Stroudcentric T-shirts, is basing the idea around the recent BBC television programme Celebrity Deathmatch, which saw Anthea Turner's husband Grant Bovey and Ricky Gervais - star of award-winning sit-com The Office - go head to head in the boxing ring.

"I think it will probably be a wrestling match although I'm open to ideas," he said.

" I'm aiming to contact prominent Stroud folk such as John Marjoram, Trevor Searby, John Mills and Ted Lane and see if they would be interested in having some light-hearted fun whilst helping a good cause at the same time."

The SNJ spoke to Trevor Searby, of health food shop Mother Nature, regarding Mr Waller's idea.

He said: "I'm not sure about going in a ring and hitting people, but maybe if we used pea shooters that splattered paint on each other... that might be a better idea."

Mr Waller is looking for anyone who may be able to sponsor or provide a ring for the planned event. Anyone who might be able to help should contact Ashley in the SNJ newsroom on 01453 762412.
