Youngsters called to show off talent

A STROUD Youth Talent Show, in aid of the BBC Children in Need Appeal, is to take place on Friday, November 21 at the Cotswold Playhouse and entries are being invited now.

The Stroud District Youth Council, a body of young people whose purpose is to give 'voice' to the aspirations of young people who live in the Stroud District, are supporting the event.

The event is actually being organised by four local teenagers, with support from family and friends.

"It's great that it's being done by young people for young people," said supporter Richard Sharpe.

"They've set a target of raising at least £2000, but with all the offers of free help that have been coming in I think that they'll raise more than that."

The judging panel will include TV Doctor Mark Porter and local MP David Drew. Prizes have already been donated by a number of large companies and the organisers are hoping that local businesses will get involved by placing advertising in the event programme and/or providing prizes.

The Talent Show will incorporate two separate competitions in age ranges 11-13 and 14-16. Auditions will be held in July 2003 and all types of music, dance and drama are expected to feature prominently.

The Gloucestershire Youth Jazz band has kindly agreed to perform during the course of the evening. Every penny raised will be donated to the Children in Need appeal.

The organisers would now welcome entries from eligible acts. An entry pack is available on 01453 731092.
