FOREST Green boss Colin Addison claimed his side had spurned a great chance of winning the FA Trophy after Rovers were dumped out of the competition by Dr Marten's Premier Division outfit Havant and Waterlooville at The Lawn on Saturday.
Havant fought back from a 1-0 deficit to deservedly clinch a shock 2-1 quarter-final win and shatter Rovers' impressive 10-game unbeaten run and Addison, while praising the visitors' commitment had no excuses for Forest Green's dismal second-half display after taking a tenth ninth lead through Neil Grayson. "We needed to be more competent, especially in the middle of the park and that's the way it proved to be," he said.
"They worked very hard but obviously I am disappointed with the two goals. The second was a great goal from their point of view, but their first was an absolute joke.
"It was back to the bad old days if I can say that. I have no complaints and I congratulate them. They have deserved it over the 90 minutes. They have scored a great second goal and gone on to win the game and that is about right.
"The first goal lifted them but we saw some poor performances out there today, individually and collectively. It wasn't the Forest Green Rovers of the last couple of months , said Addison.
"It was a cup tie and I understand Yeovil have been beaten today. These things happen, but it's a major disappointment for me and the players because we had a chance," he said.
"We could have won this tournament that's for sure, but not with a performance like that. We've paid the price and they thoroughly deserved their victory.
"It was very, very poor and I am very disappointed. We had a lot of experience out there today. All those lads have done so well in dragging this season round for Forest Green Rovers.
"We are not going to get promoted and we are not going to make the play-offs, but we could have won this tournament and to go out with a poor performance like that is very disappointing he said.
Havant joint manager Mick Jenkins said: "We knew Forest Green would be a tough nut to crack because they are the form side in the Conference at the moment and are a very good outfit on their own patch. To come from behind in the second half was a great credit to the players and a really superb effort."
