FOREST Green footballer Rob Cook will exchange his football boots for running shoes when he takes part in the annual London Marathon next month.
Rob, a robust and popular midfielder, only knew of his charity run a fortnight ago, but is hoping his fitness from football will see him through.
"It did come as something of a surprise," said Rob. "I was invited to take the place of someone who could not run.
The 32-year-old Cook will run for the Spencer Dayman Meningitis Trust but admits he is desperate for sponsorship help.
"I would like to raise £1500 and because of the short notice I haven't got long to get ready for it, but it's something I have always wanted to do."
If anyone would like to offer to sponsor Rob on his run they can send money or cheques made payable to the Spencer Dayman Meningitis Trust.
Donations can also be sent or handed in to the Stroud News and Journal offices at Lansdown, marked for the attention of Ashley Loveridge.
