Prints go on display

DYERS Mill Gallery in Thrupp has opened an exhibition which offers a rare opportunity for art lovers to see prints by great British artists.

Works on Paper collects prints by many modern British masters, including the work of Moore and Hodgkin, together with their contemporaries, Ivon Hitchens, Patrick Caulfield, Leon Kossoff, Frank Auerbach, Ivor Abrahams, Maurice Cockrill and many more.

Nearly all of the forty-odd prints in the exhibition are from the 1970s and 1980s.

Two etchings by Henry Moore - Mother and Child X and Mother and Child XIII - are of outstanding popular interest, but it's the Ivon Hitchens lithograph that is a real collector's treat.

"It's one of the final five copies left from the only edition of prints ever made by Hitchens," said Chris Matchett.

"It's not every day that you get an opportunity to see a work of art by Henry Moore or Howard Hodgkin in Stroud, let alone Ivon Hitchens," he added.

"Better still, they're for sale. Most people probably expect that buying a work of art by any of the above is far beyond their means, but the prints are by their nature multiples and you may be surprised by what you can afford.

Prices of the etchings, screenprints, lithographs and woodcuts run from a couple of hundred pounds."

Works on Paper runs until May 15 at Dyers Mill Gallery on the Griffin Mill Estate, London Road, Thrupp. The gallery is open daily, including weekends, from 10am to 5pm.
