Painswick crowned club of year

PAINSWICK Lawn Tennis Club has been presented the award as Gloucestershire Lawn Tennis Association club of the year.

Chris Rivers, county development officer, announced the award and congratulated the club on all the hard work of its committee and the club membership as a whole.

John Courts, president of Painswick LTC, received the shield from Mary Eyre, president of the Gloucestershire LTA.

Considerable strides forward have been made in the organisation of coaching of juniors and this is reflected in success on the court.

Congratulations were expressed to the girls' under-15 team who won their division last season.

The squad consisted of Lucy Moir, Annabel Sidwell, Rosie Barber and Sarah and Judith Thomas.

This was a particularly impressive achievement given that the girls were the youngest in their division and were playing together as a team for the first time.

Things look very promising for the future of Painswick junior tennis with other teams also doing well.

The club has approximately 200 adult members and 90 juniors and is supporting members through tennis coaching courses.

Based at Broadham, the club is a mini tennis accredited centre and is working towards performance accreditation.

John Courts expressed the delight of the club with the award and said that it recognised the progress which had been achieved across a wide range of activities but particularly relating to the juniors.
