Police step up patrols

SECURITY was stepped up at RAF Fairford over the weekend.

The 20 or so protesters from Stroud who attended the base on Saturday, April 5 were searched several times and one man even had his hat removed.

Photographer Matt Archibald was stopped and searched three times during the day and said fellow protester Chris Jockle had his hat removed by police.

Ed Munns from Stroud is also pictured as officers take down some details.

Police spokesman Kate Nelmes said no individuals were being specifically targeted and everyone in the area of the base was likely to be searched.

She said: "Security is extremely tight for obvious reasons. "It is not a question of targeting protesters.

"Obviously it does cause people some inconvenience but we ask people to be understanding."
