FOREST Green boss Colin Addison expressed his disappointment at the 88th minute defensive lapse that denied Rovers a draw against second placed Doncaster on Saturday, but still praised his side and especially striker Neil Grayson and departing central defender Darren Jones.
A missed header by Steve Jenkins gifted Doncaster their 2-1 winner but Addison felt that Rovers deserved a point after dictating play and creating more chances for all but the final half-hour.
"We can take a lot of satisfaction out of the game but it's just disappointing to lose to a goal like that," he said.
"I was a little disappointed because I thought we had done enough and I thought 1-1 would have been a fair enough score today.
But we have taken on a very good side, one that has just spent £30-40,000 three weeks ago and we have more than given them a game.
"We are all bitterly disappointed. It was a poor goal. It was a Sunday morning goal to concede.
"We did well first half and the keeper made a great save in the second half or otherwise it would have been us in front 2-1, but then Don Goodman came on and picked the tempo up for them.
He changed it a bit. He got behind us, won headers and made things happen.
"They got us on the back foot. It was always going to be difficult in the last 20 minutes and they pushed us back, but the goal was out of nothing," he said.
Rovers lost impetus when scorer Neil Grayson went off with a hamstring injury after 67 minutes and Addison agreed his departure made a difference.
"We just lost our way when Neil went off. He's had a magnificent season. He's made goals, scored goals, lead the line and encouraged people, and when he came off we had to change it," he said.
Addison also had high praise for Jones in his last loan game at The Lawn before returning to Bristol City, and he predicted the Welsh defender would soon be playing for his country.
"He's had a magnificent season and we have been very pleased to have him here.
He has been a credit to us and to Danny Williams and Bristol City," he said.
There is no question in my mind. He will go on to be a very, very good player.
He's a very good player now but he will go on to win international honours for his country."
