A WALKING, talking Beech tree helped celebrate a traditional rite of Spring at Horsley Primary School on Thursday, May.
Eldest pupil Tamlin Le Jay, 11, was dressed as the tree as part of the school's May Day parade.
He joined fellow pupils dressed in flowers in a procession from the school to Washpool before moving to Horsley Mill for country dancing.
The school also listened to Laurie Lee poems read by former head Andrew Kennett, an expert on folklore.
Head Martin Fry said the children had a brilliant time and enjoyed some fantastic weather and only a little bit of rain.
The May ceremony has been marked by Horsley School since Victorian times.
