VANDALS went on the rampage in Minchinhampton over the weekend. They ripped up two Market House benches and putting stones through a south transept stained glass window at Holy Trinity Church.
A disgusted Minchinhampton Common resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "There's all this trouble in Minchinhampton. It is just pure vandalism - people hanging around at night up there and not knowing what else to do with themselves. We don't want it to happen.
"The general feeling of people I spoke to is that this was a complete shock and the word going around was birching. People were disgusted at the mess created."
He believes the vandals may have been visiting Rogers Funfair, held on the common close to the church.
Parish clerk Diana Wall said the stones had punctured two holes below the Rose window but that the remainder of the glass was intact. Police confirmed they were investigating the incidences.
Rev Canon Michael Irving was unavailable for comment as the SNJ went to press.
