HOLY Trinity Church is to celebrate the refurbishment of its organ in style this weekend when a renowned organist comes to play at the reopening concert.
David Briggs, Organist Emeritus of Gloucester Cathedral, will be playing a varied programme to suit all tastes.
"He also promises to finish the evening with an improvisation on a theme suggested by members of the audience," said church warden Sarah Goodwin. "He is a fantastic improviser, so this will be a real treat."
Briggs, who has also played at Hereford and Truro Cathedrals, left Gloucester last year to concentrate on his freelance career as a concert organist and composer.
He was recently hailed as one of the top 100 organists of the 20th Century by the American Guild of Organists and has been touring the world.
The original organ was built in 1875 and has been updated and rebuilt over the years. "We've had a hybrid organ built," said Sarah Goodwin, "as the cost of pipe organs is very high.
"It helps to bring the size and flexibility of the organ in to keeping with the congregation and the size of the building."
"We are extremely pleased with the results, but there's no need to take our word for it - come and hear for yourselves," she added.
The concert takes place on Friday, June 6 at 7.30pm. Tickets, which cost £10 or £5 for students and include a glass of wine and refreshments, are only available by calling 01453 873381.
