EARLY bird swimmers have criticised the scalding showers and dirty toilets in Stroud's refurbished Stratford Park Leisure Centre changing rooms.
The group of women say they have been unable to shower after their morning swim for almost three weeks because the new units are out of order and the old ones are too hot.
A sign has been posted on the showers warning of the water temperature but the woman said: "If a child or someone without glasses could not read the notice and got in they would be scalded."
She said the group was disgusted by the toilets which appeared not to have been cleaned in three weeks.
Stroud District Council spokesman Ashley Tucker said the shower problem was intermittent - not ongoing as alleged by the swimmers.
And he defended the cleanliness of the toilets. "I'm not disputing that on occasion the cleaning is not up to standard but they are not filthy."
"We are dealing with the issue as a matter of urgency and we will resolve it. We don't want to give people scalding hot showers," he said.
