Some great racing on outside track

AT long last The Cotswold Model Car Club set up the outside track for the fifth and penultimate round of the Stroud Tool Hire Championship held on May 31 at the Duke of Gloucester Barracks, South Cerney.

The fine summer weather helped everyone enjoy a great day's racing, lap times improving through the day as the cars were tuned for the fast flowing circuit.

Four classes were running, The Top Qualifiers in each class were: Sam Tanner in the Stock Class with his Schumacher Mission; Doug Tanner in the Nitro class with his Yokomo GT4, William Hatch in the Open class with his HPI Monster Truck and Paul Leyfield in the Electric Modified class with his Tamiya TB01.

The finals sorted, the Stock class lined up for the off. Sam Tanner and Andrew Mottram had a good close fight but Sam held first right to the end and won with 15laps 4m58.17s, Andrew, also with a Schumacher Mission, only 7 seconds behind with 15laps 5m5.31s.

The Nitro final got off to a good start & for a while Doug Tanner held the lead, but an off let Ricky Mottram and Brian Hook through. The positions were held to the end with Ricky Mottram winning with 17laps 4m57.65s from Brian Hook 16laps 5m15.54s, both drivers running Yokomo GT4 cars.

The Modified Final suffered from a poor number of entries & Paul Leyfield won with 16laps 5m11.43s.

In the Open final Ady Garlick, driving a Kyosho Landmax, had a good run to take first with 13laps 4m41.41s despite running out of fuel on the last lap. Jason Dodson was second with 8laps 5m12.82s.

Current positions in the Stroud Tool Hire Championship are: Stock, 1st Sam Tanner 90 points, 2nd Andrew Mottram 89 points. Modified, 1st Mitchell Saunders 81 points, 2nd Brian Hook 59 points. Nitro, 1st Doug Tanner 102 points, 2nd Brian Hook 82 points.

The Cotswold Model Car Club holds race meetings most Saturday afternoons and new members are welcome. For details of the Club contact Doug Tanner on 01285 651251.
