Leisure centre locker thefts

SECURITY at Stroud Leisure Centre's revamped changing rooms has been called into question following a spate of locker thefts.

The thefts are yet another blow to Stratford Park Leisure Centre after months of criticism from users about its lacklustre shower and toilet facilities and poor customer service despite a £1 million refurbishment earlier this year.

Stroud police sergeant Jon Smith said: "Lockers have been broken into for cash and watches. If the place is being deliberately targeted that is something we can work with."

One regular centre user told the SNJ how thieves broke into her locker while she was using the swimming pool and her valuables were stolen.

But, Stroud District Council leisure manager Ashley Tucker said: "We have had a few lockers broken into" but he refused to comment on whether thefts are a serious problem at the centre.

Anyone with complaints about the centre or its staff should contact Mr Tucker on 01453 754339.
