Fun day in memory of Sharon

FUN-LOVING staff at a Stroud building society have raised over £1,000 for a very serious cause.

On Friday, August 20 staff at the Stroud & Swindon's head office held a fund-raising day for Cancer Research, in memory of the society's Sharon Robinson who died from cancer earlier in the year.

Sharon had worked in the Russell Street branch for over 13 years as a part-time customer assistant.

Fund-raising events included a zany guess-who-is-in-the-Dennis-the-Menace-suit game, an auction including David Beckham's signature as one of the lots, a tombola and a cake stall.

"Everything was a huge success," said the society's Amy Pegler. "We haven't come up with a final figure yet but it was definitely over £1,000."

Staff at the building society are known for their keen support of charity events such as Children in Need and Comic Relief.

The society also has corporate links with the Willow Trust which provides canal boat trips for the disabled.
