Mallett smash through broken Wood

FA Vase first qualifying round Shepton Mallett 2 Shortwood Utd 1

IF football matches were judged like boxing rounds then Shortwood United would have edged this bout on points, but a few swift counter punches destroyed this and with it booted United out of the FA Vase.

Despite dominating a first half that featured no fewer than ten Gary Marshall corners, all the Nailsworth side could conjure from their domination was a Chris Davis goal after Lee Pritchard's stinging drive was spilled.

Despite seeing a Pritchard strike cleared off the line Shepton Mallett gained parity in a rare foray with a 43rd minute equaliser.

It got much worse after the break as Lambert escaped a flat-footed defence for a 65th minute second.

United tried to find some solace with Davis seeing his header cleared off the line as United's hopes of FA Vase progression evaporated.

Shortwood: Dean, Smith, Haddock, Preece, Moore, Greenough, Marshall, Roberts, Pritchard, Davis, Phillips. Subs all used: Price, Ralph, Lang.
