Gardner digs in to kick-start Forest Green cash windfall

A UNIQUE saving scheme spearheaded by Forest Green's commercial manager Robin Eaves and the Stroud and Swindon Building Society has been bolstered by a £50,000 donation from Rovers' vice-chairman Colin Gardner, writes Ashley Loveridge.

While the money will remain his, Gardner's deposit will head towards the youth development policy at The Lawn.

"I'm delighted to have kick-started it, and I hope as many people as possible will follow my lead as it will be a huge benefit for Forest Green," said Gardner.

Supporters have been banking their savings into a Forest Green Rovers affinity account since July. The accounts are bonded together with each individual earning interest on their own funds while the building society will donate a percentage of the total balance in April, when the club play their last home game of the season against Canvey Island.

"We believe we're one of the few clubs at Conference level that have this type of scheme," said Eaves

"Fans put their money in and see their money grow with the interest as in any savings account. The building society will then give the club a percentage of the average total balance across all the accounts come April, with the money benefiting the youth development policy."
