Enjoy barrel of laughs in pub

THE first Wednesday of the month has been comedy night at the Duke of York, the pub neither half way up nor half way down Nelson Street, for a full year.

To celebrate the anniversary, November will be a one-off comedy special of

"unparalleled hilarity". In town to celebrate are two of the finest stand-ups currently working the circuit; Wil Hodgson and Pommy Johnson

"The standard has been high since comedy nights began," said Duke of York manager Cam Robertson, "but this month will really be something else. Both comics performing are of headliner standard - it's going to be jam-packed with jokes."

Wil Hodgson is fast establishing himself on the stand-up circuit as an original and unique voice.

A former professional wrestler and member of the communist party, Wil turned to stand-up a couple of years ago and hasn't looked back, winning the Perrier award for Best Newcomer this year.

Spinning hilarious and memorable yarns of bizarre West Country rednecks, care bears and big women, Wil is already a firm favourite with comedy promoters and audiences and is set to become a big name in the world of stand-up.

Pommy has developed a reputation as a live wire stand-up comedian via extensive touring. His singing and guitar playing goes off the deep end.

Parodies include Bob Dylan, Kurt Cobain, The Who plus many more celebrities who need a good shake-up.

The show takes place on Wednesday, November 3. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are available in advance only from the Duke of York, Nelson Street. Availability is limited and demand is expected to be high.
