South West 2 West Gordon League RFC 38 Stroud RFC 10

STROUD will be hoping for better fortune this Saturday when they welcome Brixham to Fromehall Park.

It could be all too easy to protect Stroud players from last Saturday's defeat, but lessons need to be learned.

League had been dismantled the previous weekend by Spartans and with Stroud being able to field arguably their strongest side so far this season expectations were high for the travelling faithful

League were ten points to the good within the first few minutes with a softly conceded try that was converted and then increased with a penalty.

Stroud gradually got into the game but struggled to get any platform to build attacks. Nevertheless, Stroud drew themselves back into the game with probably the best try of the match from Lyle Robertson, Julian Harry converted and added a penalty, but with half time looming League scored a soft try out wide that was well converted to leave them deservedly ahead 17-10.

What then happened in the second half remains inexplicable.

League were looking to turn the screw with the advantage of the slope whereas Stroud seemed to panic themselves into looking for improbable moves and solo efforts that all too often found the ball carrier isolated. Food and drink to League.
