Same team, different result

Pilning 1st XV 19 Cainscross 1st XV 7 CAINSCROSS travelled down to Pilning again this week following the referee mix-up last weekend.

Unfortunately, they couldn't come away with the same result when it counted for league points.

Cainscross started well enough on a soft pitch, some excellent pick and driving from the forwards after a lineout eventually leading to a try under the posts for openside Luke Dando.

Gareth Ponsford added the conversion and the Cainscross defence was then called into action as Pilning began to get into the game.

The home side equalised when a tap penalty was quickly taken by the number eight who crashed through to score.

Another converted try from Pilning gave them the advantage at half-time by 14 points to seven.

Cainscross were again dominant in the second half but just couldn't get back into the game.

Two long range Ponsford penalties fell just short and Adam Carter lost his footing in the mud as he rounded the full-back with the try-line begging.

However, Pilning extended their lead just before the end with a breakaway try against the run of play, which summed up the afternoon for Cainy.

Cainscross United entertained Westbury for the second time in three weeks but eventually lost, captain Ed Butcher scoring the only try for Cainscross. Man of the match for Cainscross: Josh O'Dowd.
