Super, juicy treat for pop fans

SUPERJUICE and Popgang, two of Stroud's premier bands, are performing at the Liberal Club on Merrywalks this weekend.

Superjuice are launching their EP What You See is What You Get, their first recording as a full band, at the show.

Lead singer and songwriter Joe Reeve said: "This will be SuperJuice's last gig in Stroud for a while. Our next step is to get out there and seek our fortunes - or at least have a good time playing a load of gigs in Bristol, Bath and anywhere else we can get a show!

"We've got a few new songs to play and we're really pleased with the EP."

Both Superjuice and Popgang had a very successful Fringe Festival, playing packed and exciting gigs at the street party on Nelson Street and at Artspace.

Popgang are currently working on their own EP, which will be launched some time in the new year.

The gig at the Liberal Club takes place on Friday, November 12 from 8pm. Tickets are £4 on the door and over 18s only will be admitted.

What You See Is What You Get is available from Trading Post and Kane's Records.

REVIEW

SuperJuice What You See Is What You Get EP £5

SUPERJUICE'S debut EP is one of those rare things; a hard-rocking record filled with tender yet thoroughly unsentimental romanticism.

It bridges the gap between the need for a tight rhythm and thrilling riffs to fill the floor and an epic feel for love in all its forms that will draw in the average home listener. Isn't that what rock and roll has always been about?

It captures in crystalline form the band's slippery, mercurial live sound and is alive with all the traces of influence that inform the best bands whilst never becoming slave to the influence.

There are all sorts of detectable traces - from a petroleum-whiff of Mtorhead in the title track to Cry's hard-edged Northern Soul styling - dressed up in the sort of epic sound that made bands like Duran Duran so exciting. And best of all, the whole EP sounds like SuperJuice.

From the ironic, tub-thumping rock beast of the title track to the gorgeous, epic and romantic Restless, a love song that is as fidgety, exciting and healthily paranoid as its title would suggest, to Trust In Me, a doe-eyed come-to-bed call from the end of an affair which displays an insouciant innocence that no-one should be able to resist, this is a great start for any band.
