HOMEGROWN saxophonist Patsy Gamble, who has played with Mick Jagger amongst many others, launches her debut album After Sunset with a gig at The Space on Friday, November 12.
After playing, recording and touring across the world with myriad artists, from authentic bluesmen to celebrities such as Jasper Carrott and Bobby Davro, the Butterow musician will play original material from her first album.
"I started out playing in various local bands," she said. "Brass bands, pop bands, jazz bands. All sorts."
She has performed with the Nailsworth Silver Band, 90% Proof and the much-missed Stroud soul outfit from the 1980s, Spies in the Sugar.
"The session work came through people I've worked with. Matt Clifford Mick Jagger's producer gave me a call out of the blue and I got to go to London and try things out. It's mostly through people you come into contact with."
Patsy Gamble began writing After Sunset, on which she plays everything herself, when her mother died in February 2001.
"It made me pull my finger out and get on with it," she said. "Mum left me some money - with her help I saw the project through!"
Her sister Ros died three years later in February 2004.
This mix of jazz, funk, soul and classical influences is in part a cathartic attempt to deal with those losses.
Tickets to see Gamble and her band play live from the new album are £6 and available from Riffs music shop, Stroud on 01453 764395. Doors to the launch party open at 8pm. The gig begins at around 9pm.
