Music scene gets a sound boost

THE Stroud music scene received an acoustic boost this week when musicians' collective The Hub launched the first CD on its new label.

The CD features top talent from the Five Valleys and beyond and aims to promote the work of local acts to a wider audience.

"It's for anyone with ears," said The Hub's Andy Dunn. "It covers a huge spectrum of original ideas from hip hop to acoustic with some interesting experimental pieces in between."

The collective's Neil Walker added: "Over the last eight months we've been running open mike sessions at Stroud Valleys Artspace and that in conjunction with the rehearsal space we have in Stroud has given a real boost to the music scene here and we hope this CD will be the first of many."

The Hub is now a well-established part of Stroud's vibrant art scene and the creation of the record label is the latest phase in its efforts to provide the support members feel musicians deserve.

"The idea of setting the collective up was really to put artists in control," said Neil. "It's not about making loads of money, it's about providing musicians with opportunities.

* The Hub CD is now on sale in Kane's Records and Trading Post. Musicians not already involved in The Hub can find out more by calling 01453 751440 or e-mailing hub@sva.org.uk
