Ex-Stone makes Jackie's birthday

BIG-HEARTED former Rolling Stones rocker Bill Wyman made a Stroud multiple sclerosis sufferer's birthday with a special delivery signed guitar and card.

Cashes Green resident Jackie Barker has suffered from the degenerative disease for 22-years and is now confined to a wheelchair. Last week she was stunned to receive a very special delivery.

Husband Eddy, a memorabilia collector who has forged an extraordinary relationship with Wyman over 30 years, said: "It means a great deal when you see her face light up like the Blackpool illuminations.

"Bill Wyman is her favourite. He's a little guy with a big heart. He grew fond of her when he knew she had MS and he always asks about her whenever I go to see him."

The last time his wife went out was almost two years ago to see the legendary rocker play with his band The Rhythm Kings.

Landscape gardener Eddy explained how his relationship with Wyman began in 1973 when the Stones bassist accepted an offer for him to help furnish his London restaurant Sticky Fingers Cafe with memorabilia and collectibles.

Now he is treated to front row seats wherever Wyman plays and the great man's latest act of kindness has put a smile on the couple's faces.

"Her brain is still with us but her legs and arms aren't," said Eddy. "She could do The Times Crossword but she couldn't write the answers in."
