Students are wired for sound

STUDENTS who have demonstrated a sound knowledge of a recording studio's inner workings picked up their qualifications this week.

The trainees have completed an NVQ in sound recording at the Painswick Inn in Stroud.

"The students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and over the course of the year have managed to achieve a lot," said studio manager Rob Evans.

The trainees have had to learn about everything from health and safety in the studio to midi sequencing, recording live instruments, sampling and understanding the daunting knobs, dials and slides of the mixing desk. "A lot of the students come to us without any experience and learn the basics," said Rob.

"The course is runs for an academic year and is open to anyone, so long as they meet certain criteria."
