COMMUNITY groups in Stroud are being invited to apply for grants to help with the good work they do in the town.
Stroud Town Council's youth and community committee has got money going begging at the moment and is keen to hear from worthwhile causes that could benefit from a cash boost.
"We haven't had as many requests for grants as we have in previous years so we still have money left in our budget," said Cllr Linda Townley, the committee chairman.
"Any group or charity based in Stroud can apply but the money has to be used to benefit the community, not individuals."
The maximum grant available from the committee is £1,000 and recent beneficiaries this year have included the Stroudwater Textile Trust, the Stroud Trade Justice Movement, the Marching Bands Festival and residents' associations throughout the town.
The committee hopes to find suitable groups to use up its grants budget by the beginning of the next financial year in April. "We can help a wide variety of people," said Cllr Townley.
"It can be for anything from putting on an event to helping to cover the running costs of an organisations.
"To apply people just need to fill in a very simple form and the committee meets every six weeks so people can get the money fairly quickly."
To find out more about the grants or to get hold of an application form call Sheral Gardiner, the assistant town clerk, on 01453 762817.
