A CONSTELLATION of classroom stars shone when Stroud College celebrated the success of its students at the Subscription Rooms.
On Tuesday, November 23 young people and their families as well as corporate sponsors, college staff and governors were present for the awarding of more than twenty certificates and prizes to winning students.
Awards were made for best performing student and most improved performance in each department, as well as management student of the year and Stroud College student of the year.
Stroud MP, David Drew was the keynote speaker and other invited guests included representatives from Stroud District Council, Dairy Crest, Stroud News and Journal, Gloucestershire Chamber of Commerce, Omega Selection Services and Stroud and District Business Club.
Bob Hughes, Stroud College's director of services said: "It was wonderful to hear of the successes of our students.
"The genuine warmth of feeling was clear to everyone in the citations read out by our tutors, it was really touching.
"We intend to make this an annual event, giving us the opportunity to celebrate the success of our learners on a yearly basis."
Winning students all received certificates and prizes, a number of them sponsored by local organisations.
Lynn Craig, the student of the year, who will now study midwifery at university, was presented with her award by David Hagg, chief executive of Stroud District Council. The SNJ's own editor, Skip Walker presented top performing art and design student, Nicola Hill, with her award.
Star student Lydia 'the encyclopydia' Savage received an award for best A-Level student after completing an English course in a single year and scoring a remarkable 100 per cent in one of her papers and coming out with an average of 94 per cent.
