Seasonal fun with musicians

POPULAR seasonal visitors Vivaldi Camerata are returning to St Laurence's Church this week for a special Christmas concert.

The Vivaldi Camerata, who have played in Stroud for the last two Christmases, will be performing Vivaldi's Four Seasons as well as music by Haydn and Mozart.

This is the first time they will be performing the Four Seasons in full in Stroud, with David Le Page as soloist.

David trained at the Menuhin School with Yehudi Menuhin and Sydney Griller, and in Switzerland with the legendary Igor Osim.

After winning prizes as a young teenager in the Menuhin International Violin competition, and in the BBC Young Musician of the year, he launched into an amazingly eclectic career, playing with the Kreuzer String Quartet, as violinist with the theatre music group

The Gogmagogs, where he met Vivaldi Camerata cellist, Stroud-born Christopher Allan, as well as soloist for the Composers Ensemble, with jazz pianist Kieth Tippett, and in numerous solo recital and concerto appearances.

"We started with the idea to bring to the performance space the fun we have when playing together in the living room, said Chris Allen. "Above all we are good friends.

"David has a particular affinity with the Four Seasons, a quirky yet brilliant approach which I am sure Vivaldi would have relished - it really is a performance not to be missed."

The concert is on Tuesday, December 21 at 7.30pm in St Laurence's Church. Tickets, at £10 or £8 concessions, are available from Riffs Music Shop, or on the door.. Under 16s will be admitted free.
