Positive move for Rovers

FOREST Green Rovers will be holding coaching sessions for young football stars of the future this Thursday and Friday at The Lawn.

Children ten and under are invited to attend The Lawn from 11am-12.30pm and for over 11s from 1pm to 2pm.

The sessions will be spearheaded by Mitch Kitchener.

"As a club, we want to provide quality opportunities for people of all ages regardless of gender, race or ability to participate in football with Forest Green," said Kitchener.

"We will establish youth teams to participate in the local community football leagues and be a focal point for the provision of training courses for coaches and officials alike.

"At present, we run a football partnership with Swindon College, a team in the Gloucester Youth League, a ladies' football team, disability coaching and community football coaching. But we will be looking to take this on by obtaining the FA Charter Standard, introducing boys' and girls' football at all age groups, establishing links with professional clubs in the county and developing better links with the GFA.

"We also plan to strengthen our relationship with Stroud District Council through the regeneration through sport manager, and work closely with the Nailsworth community, schools and staff, offering courses for coaches, officials and volunteers."
