LOCAL company Underground Arts Ltd is starting workshops for budding young artists in Nailsworth in the New Year.
Underground Arts have already been running successful workshops in the Malmesbury area and the initial workshops in the Stroud Valleys will be at Nailsworth Town Hall on Friday afternoons after school from 4.15pm to 5.45pm.
They will be running for ten weeks starting Friday, January 14, and will teach children everything from collage to clay and painting to papier-mache.
Underground Arts was founded by Verity Smith, a locally trained artist, who set up the company with her best friend since childhood Dinah Lees.
According to Verity the group has three main aims: "We want to bring performing and visual arts training and workshops into the hands of youngsters in the local area and to expand their knowledge of the arts in the hope of promoting creativity in the children of the area.
We also want to create opportunities for specified learning in this field for children in the area where currently there are none," she said.
"We aim not only to encourage children in the area to take part in previously unavailable activities," she added, "but also to help them to become actively involved in a group, support their learning and develop their artist talent.
"They will be encouraged to experience new things and push the boundaries of their school education in the arts."
