Festive bash for charity

SOUL legends The Foundations are set to play in Stroud for a funktastic festive charity bash masterminded by local DJ Andy Edwards.

The classic 70s band, who had hits with Build Me Up Buttercup and Baby, Now That I've Found You, will perform at the Stroud Subscription Rooms on Tuesday, December 28.

It is hoped the Christmas Soul Party, which includes original Foundations vocalist Clem Curtis, will follow the mould of previous yuletide shows and raise thousands for cancer-fighting children's charity CLIC.

Stroud DJ and event organiser Andy Edwards has coaxed numerous 70s stars to the town in past years, including Rose Royce and The Real Thing. He was positive this year's show would go off with a bang.

"It should be a fantastic night," he said. "Christmas is over and done with and people can come and let their hair down and have a good dance.

"There is a good audience for these 70s acts in Stroud - even teenagers seem to be into it. The nice thing about last Christmas was we saw a whole range of age groups there."

Originally formed in the late 60s, The Foundations topped the charts in the 70s and their best-known hit Build Me Up Buttercup reached number one in the UK and the US, selling 15 million copies worldwide.

The Foundations' set will be supported by Andy Edwards in full disco mode with Stax of Trax.

Tickets for the show cost £12.50 and are available from the Stroud Subscription Rooms box office on 01453 760900. All profits from the event will go to CLIC.
