Lewer cancels Christmas for Forest Green

ALAN LEWER became the latest boss to turn Scrooge and cancel Christmas for his players this week.

And when the players turn up for training over Christmas-not a drop of holiday cheer in sight-there is unlikely to be any moaning as improving Rovers enter a crucial holiday period.

Forest Green will travel to an Aldershot Town side that will feature former Forest Green midfielder Hugh McAuley on Boxing Day, and then welcome Crawley Town to The Lawn on Tuesday, December 28, before facing Aldershot at home on New Year's Day.

"Christmas is cancelled," said Lewer. "I don't believe in Christmas, we had our break in the summer, so we will be in on Christmas Eve, and if we were full-time we would be in on Christmas Day."

Lewer appreciates that the sequence of matches will be tough and with this in mind he has stepped up his search for fresh-faces.

"We are trying to look for a few more players and hopefully by the end of this week that will happen, because with the Christmas period we will need as many fit bodies as possible."

Rovers are certainly one of the Conference's form teams with just one defeat from the last seven Conference matches.
