Talented youths prepare to wow

THE FOURTH annual Undiscovered Youth Talent Contest, organised by Stroud's The Door youth project, returns to the Subscription Rooms next weekend.

There are 26 acts in total competing this year, including four bands, three dance acts and nineteen vocalists.

"Last year's winning band Elysium are returning," said The Door's Brendan Conboy, "along with singers Olivia Jones and Aimee Ballinger who won loads of prizes last year.

"However, 50% of the acts are new to the competition - there are a lot of talented new faces including two new bands, a classical Spanish guitar band and an amazing 11 year old singer.

"It's really nice to see the younger ones coming through. Some of the older contestants have declined to come back this year, simply because they wanted some of the younger contestants to get their chance to shine."

There are twelve prizes at stake in the competition, with a grand prize of studio recording time for the winning act.

"We're still in need of sponsors for prizes," added Brendan. "We'd be grateful for anyone who's willing to help out."

The contest takes place on Saturday, January 29 from 7.30pm. Tickets, which are available from the Subscription Rooms' box office, cost £4.50 or £3.50 for under 16s. The show will be hosted by BBC Radio Gloucestershire presenter John Rockley.
