Longlevens 17 Painswick 17
PAINSWICK travelled to Longlevens and came away with a disappointing draw in this Glos Premier clash on Saturday.
After an excellent first half display which saw Painswick leading 12-6, they then produced a below-par performance in the second to allow Longlevens to share the points.
Winger James Wynn got Painswick off to a flying start with a try after 17 minutes, thanks to some sterling work from the forwards, Clewes missed the conversion. Minutes later flanker Matt Coombs was sin-binned for a late tackle, Longlevens reduced the deficit with a penalty from Goran Antonejivinc.
On the return of Coombs Painswick increased their lead with a converted try from centre Olly Clewes after a chip ahead from fly-half Bragg.
Antonejivinc scored Longlevens' second penalty just before the half-time interval to leave them trailing 12-6.
With the home side piling on the pressure in the second half, Painswick lost their discipline and were punished when Antonejivinc kicked two penalties to level the scores.
However Painswick responded with only ten minutes remaining when winger Aussie Smith scored a superb individual try beating several would-be tacklers to score in the corner, the conversion was missed.
With time running out Longlevens launched one last attack and were rewarded when they scored an unconverted try to level the scores and share the points.
For Painswick fly-half Bragg, Clewes and another Fijian signing Isoa Dakunimata formed a good midfield partnership and looked a potent force in attack.
This weekend sees Painswick not having a fixture, but they will hopefully get one from the fixture exchange.
Chosen Hill 13 Painswick United 5
THE United's winning run was ended when they failed to take their chances against Chosen Hill in this Merit Table game on Saturday.
Chosen started strongly but came up against a determined defence and couldn't find their way through.
Once the United had got a foothold in the game they scored a good try from centre James Booker after a good break from fly-half Nick Rogers.
The play then became scrappy with neither side able to penetrate the defences. On the stroke of half-time Chosen reduced the deficit with a penalty from their fly half.
The second half saw the same pattern as the first with the home side starting strongly and they were rewarded with their second penalty from the fly-half.
The United then had the chance to take the lead but Rogers missed a penalty in front of the posts. Then winger Simon Stewart had a try disallowed for a double-movement.
This seemed to inspire the home side and they went on to score a converted try from their powerful inside centre.
The United then upped their tempo and thought they had scored a try when they pushed the Chosen pack over their own line from a scrum, but the referee adjudged they had knocked the ball on over the try-line, so disallowed a second try for the United.
All in all the United will feel disappointed with this result because on reflection they had the chances to win.
This weekend sees the United tackling old rivals Cainscross at home, kick-off 2.30pm at Broadham Fields.
