Influential slice of Japanese cinema

ONE OF the greatest epics of Japanese cinema, The Seven Samurai (PG), comes to the Space Cinema Club this weekend.

Kurosawa's astonishing and beautiful film has been much copied (in The Magnificent Seven and even A Bug's Life), but still retains its transfixative power.

It tells the story of a group of farmers who are threatened by bandits and hire an eclectic group of samurai warriors to protect them.

The film is being shown at 8pm on Sunday, February 20. Tickets are £5 on the door. Membership cost £2 for a calendar year.
