Glos Premier Painswick 5 Old Richians 17

PAINSWICK's recent good form of late deserted them on Saturday when they lost against Old Richians.

Painswick needed to win this game to move themselves away from the relegation battle at the bottom of the table. But it was Richians who started strongly and they soon moved into a 10-0 lead thanks to a converted try and a penalty from Gareth Fenwick. Just before the interval the visitors increased their lead with another converted try to give them a 17-0 cushion.

Painswick upped their work rate in the second half and were rewarded when they pushed the Richians' scrum over their own line for number eight Rob Andrew to claim the touchdown.

Minutes later Painswick thought they had scored again when winger Aussie Smith won the race for a touchdown, but the referee deemed Smith hadn't touched the ball down.

Try as they might Painswick couldn't find a way through the visitors' defence, so they suffered a very disappointing defeat against a team they should have beaten.
