Hanstock rises high

HELEN Hanstock, Stroud Athletic Club's under 17 high jump girl, came home from the Amateur Athletic Association junior meeting in Birmingham with a bronze medal.

The 15-year-old Stroud High School pupil put in a personal best performance at the indoor event, with a jump of 1.55m, and qualified for the high jump championship on February 26, to be held at the Birmingham Indoor Athletics Centre.

Helen joined the Stroud club just over a year ago, and had a personal best of 1.3m, which she has improved dramatically over 12 months with some dedicated training and coaching.

* Any youngsters who have competed in high jump at school are welcome to come along to the club's indoor sessions at Archway School every Tuesday, to have a go at this event, as well as most other athletics events.
