Preddy frustration

RYAN PREDDY has revealed his frustration after the 21-year-old was controversially left out of the Great Britain 4x400m relay team at the Madrid Indoor Championships on Sunday.

Preddy had hoped to take his place in the final on Sunday, after finishing second British athlete in the AAA Championships, which incorporated the trials and recording the third fastest time of the winter.

But instead Preddy was omitted, but his Gloucester club runner and training partner Richard Davenport made the quartet. "I'm just shocked," Preddy told the SNJ.

"The selectors made the wrong decision and two of the team have recorded slower times than me. The disappointment is hitting home more, since I've returned home."

Britain's men's teamwere handed a surprise silver medal after a relay marred by a collision and poor sportsmanship of the Spanish crowd towards France, the eventual winners.

The British team were out of contention when the collision happened but crossed the line third, later upgraded to second when Poland were disqualified for a push on the third leg that sent Spain's Luis Flores crashing to the track.
