Reed aiming for Boat Race revenge

NAILSWORTH'S Peter Reed will be aiming for rowing revenge when the Oxford oarsman takes to The River Thames this Sunday for the annual Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Reed, 23, a former Cirencester Deer Park pupil, was part of the Oxford crew who lost out in last year's controversial race in a time of 18 minutes 47 seconds after a dramatic clash of oars just before the Fulham wall.

That result gives Cambridge a 78-71 lead over Oxford, with one dead heat. The Oxford cox lodged a formal complaint post-race but it wasn't upheld .

For the first time ITV will broadcast the annual Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge Universities on the River Thames. This is the 176th anniversary of the race and the 151st time that the world famous institutions have battled each other on the water.

The race itself takes place over four and a quarter miles of water - from Putney to Mortlake - and last year a quarter of a million spectators lined the banks of the Thames with millions more tuning in on television. This year ITV1 will broadcast the contest live at 2pm. They will also broadcast a documentary on ITV 1 at 1.30 pm on Saturday.

The documentary crew have been filming Oxford and Cambridge in training since September of last year and the film will show "what it takes" to become a Boat Race Blue.
