Poultry in motion

A POULTRY lover from Minchinhampton was not eggs-aggerating when he told the SNJ about this monster egg.

One of Jim Bennett's French Maran chickens produced this eggs-traordinary five-and-three-quarter ounce specimen.

The 62-year-old Eastfield Road resident said: "This is the biggest one I've ever had in my life. It's much bigger than a goose's egg."

His previous biggest were at least an ounce less.

The animal lover keeps around 200 chickens along with ducks and goats on his Falfield smallholding.

"I like my chickens," he said. "They are characters and I'm a character. I'm not the same as everyone else and the animals are the same."

Sadly he has been unable to indulge in more than two eggs a week since 2002 after being diagnosed with diabetes.

"I love eggs. I used to live on eggs," he said. "You get an egg, you got a meal."
