Painswick 10 Stow 17
PAINSWICK went out of the Cheltenham Combination Senior Cup on Wednesday evening when they lost to Stow in a hard-fought game.
Stow, who play two leagues above Painswick, started at a tremendous pace, scoring all their points in the first 20 minutes.
The next hour saw Painswick taking the game to their opponents.
However, Painswick managed to score two tries through centre Olly Clewes to leave the visitors hanging on for victory.
Painswick 5 Avonmouth 34
PAINSWICK came up against a well-drilled and slick Avonmouth side on Saturday in Glos Premier.
Avonmouth, who are second in the league and virtually guaranteed a play-off place, made the game safe with an excellent second half display of running rugby, with their support play very evident.
The visitors took the lead midway through the first half with a penalty but Olly Clewes put Painswick in front with a try after he chipped ahead and won the race for the touchdown.
Avonmouth restored the lead just before half-time with a converted try to leave them 10-5 to the good at the interval.
In the second half Wednesday night's bruising game against Stow started to take its toll on the Painswick players who were running on empty.
Avonmouth started to find large gaps in the home defence and exploited them to good effect with their excellent lines of running and support play to run out comfortable winners in the end.
This Saturday Painswick play their last league match of the season when they travel to Tewkesbury, kick-off 3pm.
Unless half the league get relegated Painswick have secured their place in Glos Premier for next season.

Painswick United 0 Glos Police 10
UNITED put up a brave performance against Glos Police on Tuesday evening in the Cheltenham Combination Junior Cup.
With 75 minutes of the game gone the score was still 0-0 with neither side able to breach the defensive line.
The Police were then awarded a penalty which they kicked to give them the lead.
The home side kicked the restart long, which resulted in a lineout 20 metres from the Police line.
From the resulting lineout it looked like the Police hooker knocked on, the United players stopped but the referee waved play on, from which the visitors scored a converted try to wrap the game up.
FIXTURES for Saturday: Painswick 1st XV v Tewkesbury (Glos Premier, away, meet 12.30pm, kick-off 3pm, shirts and ties); Painswick United XV v TBA (home, meet 1pm, kick-off 3pm).
Teams selected after training on Tuesday evening. If unavailable please contact Kev Harris on 07968400037 or Julian Mitchell on 07747600764.
