Fifield makes her mark as ladies dominate

JO FIFIELD led the way for Stroud at the inaugural Hogweed Hilly Half Marathon at Horton Village near Chipping Sodbury as three Stroud ladies finished in the top five of the ladies' race.

Fifield was star of the day, taking her first ladies' prize, finishing in 1h37m, a perfect start to her summer running season.

Just under ten minutes behind Jo, Lorraine Huggett LV35 came in third lady, with Alayne McGarry LV35 fifth lady in 1h53m.

Sharon Askew LV35 made up Stroud ladies' section, just beating the two hour mark on 1h58m.

OTHER Stroud runners: David Askew 16th in 1h34m, Trevor De Havilland V40 1h39m, Andrew Campbell V40 1h43m, Mike Garnett V50 1h48m, Chris Young V50 1h48m, Matt Armstrong 1h51m, Gerard Newman V50 2h24m.

Five Stroud runners entered the Rhayader 20 mile race, which takes in the mountain road loop through the Elan Valley in mid-Wales.

Jon Brough V50 finished in 2h33m, Nick Bell 2h38m, Phil Manning 3h10m, Karen Bruff 3h18m and Terry Hefferman 3h30m.
