STROUD'S Shirley Linton ran her third marathon in London on Sunday.
And the reception class teacher was back with her pupuls at King's School, Gloucester on Monday, proudly showing off her medal.
The youngsters aged 3-11 had taken part in a carousel of activities based on the event: designing running numbers and medals, making pasta, timed running games, learning about the history behind the event and plotting maps of the route.
They had also united on the playground for an ambitious project that involved laying out 26.2 metres of 10 pence pieces all to be donation for Winston's Wish, a national charity that supports bereaved children.
Support from the children resulted in 40 metres of 10 pences raising a total of £160 for the charity.
Shirley also ran the Paris Marathon in 2000 to raise money for Winston's Wish but said she enjoyed her second London marathon far more. Record crowds turned out this year to enjoy the day.
"It was great fun to run with rhinos and wombles and support from the crowd kept me going despite pain from a knee injury caused by skiing," said Shirley.
"It wasn't about achieving a personal best this time, I just happy to finish in under five hours and turn up at school on Monday with a medal to show the children. "
Anyone who would like to make any further donations to Winstons Wish should contact Shirley on 07904 330167
