Rovers' love affair is broken at The Lawn

Conference Forest Green Rovers 2 Canvey Island 2

TO the tune of Monty Python's Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, Forest Green departed the Conference after a seven-year love affair.

But any fervour that may have risen on St George's Day was lacking, with Rovers and Alan Lewer acutely aware that the season was all but over.

However, pride and playing contracts were the order of the day. A distinctly ordinary game was nonetheless enlivened by the combative Andy Harris, Paul Warhurst and the agility of Steve Perrin, in his last game for Rovers.

Earlier, Damon Searle's error allowed Jeff Minton to nod Canvey ahead after 22 minutes.

However, Searle found parity 12 minutes later, tapping in after Danny Potter spilled Harris' 30-yard strike.

It was Harris who appeared to have won the game for Rovers as he smashed home Robert Gill's 89th minute cross.

Nonetheless, Mario Noto snatched a point deep into stoppage time after Ollie Berquez got away from Jon Beswetherick.

FOLLOWING the departure of Alan Lewer, Forest Green have already received six applications for the vacant managers post.

Meanwhile, Steve Perrin, Mike Green, Ben Cleverley, Stuart Roberts, Des Lyttle and Hugh McAuley have all been released.

Jon Richardson and Charlie Griffin are currently in contract talks with a view to remaining at The Lawn.

FOREST GREEN travel to Tuffley Rovers on Friday (7.15pm), to celebrate the Glevum Park side's 75th anniversary
