Davryan will prove tough test for Aliss

LEIGH ALLISS steps back into the ring in Plymouth on Friday, determined to get back to winning ways.

Alliss, 29, was beaten in his last fight against Valerie Odin in December, but admitted the fight had come too soon after he captured the Western Area light heavyweight title against Shane White.

"As far as I was concerned it was after the Lord Mayor's Show to be honest," said Alliss.

"I had beaten Shane in October and I put myself under too much pressure, but in this game it is a learning curve."

Alliss will go toe-to-toe with Armenian fighter Varuzhan Davryan and is expecting a tough fight.

"He put down former WBU champion Tony Oakey in his last fight, so I certainly will be aware of his capabilities."

Alliss had been due to fight a fortnight ago, but a tendon injury ruled him out.

"I did have a problem with my back but Richard Brown at The Lansdown Clinic sorted me out. I'm fine now and I'm just looking forward to Friday."

The Stroud pugilist received a boost this week with the news that he has been awarded a three-year contract from boxing manager Chris Sanigar.

"This is a major boost for me and gives me the confidence to pursue my target of a shot at the English and British titles this year."

Away from the ring, Alliss recently took a brief acting role in the BBC1 drama Casualty.

"The BBC film near our gym in Bristol and I was asked to play the part of a builder."
