Hard-hitting Alliss bounces back with win

LEIGH ALLISS bounced back to winning ways with a decisive points win over Vazuzhan Davtyan at Plymouth Pavilions on Friday.

A back injury had forced Stroud's Western Area light heavyweight champion to cancel his previous contest in Bristol last month but Alliss showed his return to form with a 39-37 victory.

A crunching right hand towards the end of the opening round knocked the Armenian light heavyweight to the canvas. However, Davtyan got to his feet before the bell came to his rescue.

"I wanted to finish him off in that round, but I remained controlled because like a wounded tiger a boxer can be twice as dangerous when he is hurt," said Alliss.

The Stroud pugilist eventually came out a comfortable winner in the four three-minute rounds.

Alliss dedicated his victory to the memory of Mickey Cowley.

His next fight is scheduled to take place at Ashton Gate in June.
